We spend money, time and effort to find the perfect cologne or perfume that works for us to smell good but alas! You find out that the fragrance has faded over ashort period of time.
Smelling good for longer periods of time is about knowing when, how and where to apply your cologne or perfume. Here area few tips to enhance the power of your perfume and feel fresh and fragrant through your day!
- Keep your perfumes away from direct sunlight and heat as it reduces the quality of the fragrance. Find cool and dry spots away from windows such as your closet, cupboard or dresser drawers to store your perfume in.
- Keep your clothes smelling great by lining your dresser drawer with tissue paper and spraying perfume or cologne directly on to the paper.
- Choose a good perfume that is not too over powering and keeps you fresh all day long. We recommend a floral mild perfume such as the Secrets Jasmine or Araliya.
- Find your perfume hotspots! Apply a little bit of cologne or perfume to your wrists, behind the ears, inside the elbows, on the collarbone and even on the back of your neck! These areas constantly emit body heat which then activates the perfume scents.
- Go one step further and add petroleum jelly to your pulse points before spraying perfume as the oil in the jelly will help hold the fragrance for longer.
- Choose a long lasting scent such as the Secrets Seduction Cologne Spray that will not wear off in a few hours.
- Brush up on commonly used perfume terms. The top note refers to the first scent you smell after spraying the perfume , which fades quickly. The middle or heart notes is the scent that develops after the top note fades while the base note is the heaviest scent that remains on you for the longest time.
- Do not rub your wrists together after spritzing perfume on it. Rubbing your wrists together ‘rushes the perfume’ which means you wil lsmell the middle and base notes of the scent sooner than you normally would. Instead gently dab your wrists together.
- Since oily skin retains fragrances for longer, try applying an unscented moisturizer to your skin before spritzing your cologne or perfume.
- Keep your hair smelling great by spraying perfume onto a hair brush and gently combing it through your hair.
- Wait for the perfume to dry completely before smelling it. This is because the scent you smell as soon as you spray perfume is the top note which disappears rather quickly. The scent that will remain with you is the one that you can smell after the perfume has dried on your skin.
- Got just a few more drops remaining in your perfume? Don’t waste it! Utilize those last few drops by mixing it with an unscented lotion and applying it on to your skin.
- If you are using a strong scented perfume, instead of spraying it directly on to your skin, spritz some of the perfume in the air and walk through it for a lighter scent that is not too overpowering.
- If you are not a fan of carrying your perfume or cologne around, carry around some cotton buds dabbed with your favorite fragrance. Use these cotton buds to touch up your perfume throughout the day.
- When choosing a perfume, be sure to smell coffee beans in between samples as this will clear your senses to try out the next spray.
- Avoid shaking your perfume or cologne bottle. Perfume is meant to stand still therefore shaking it will let air in and reduce its quality.
- Perfume alone cannot keep you smelling great throughout the day, therefore invest in a good deodorant that will help control odors.
- Spraying perfume on the top of your ears will hold its scent for longer.
- Perfume on damp skin will help lock in the scent, so be sure to apply perfume after you shower to make it last longer.
- Spritzing some perfume on to your clothes can keep you smelling good for a long time as clothing fibers lock in scents for longer periods of time.
